A highly respected Charlotte-based leadership nonprofit is seeking a Learning & Development Program Specialist. They are located south of the Uptown area, with free parking at the building. The role will be primarily on-site, with some flex in schedule and some opportunity for hybrid as onboarding is completed.

Overview

This position's primary responsibility is to function as a "conductor" that sees to the success of all programs. The goal of the program is leadership development for both the participant and volunteers who help plan programs. Imagine this role as “The party happened because of you but you didn’t have to be the life of the party.” You will work in close collaboration with the Executive Director, other staff, volunteers, and community leaders – having exposure to some of the most influential leaders in the greater Charlotte region. The ideal candidate will be a servant-hearted leader seeking to serve - someone who loves managing the details to make the big picture happen and is passionate about Charlotte and developing leaders.

Responsibilities:
  • Oversight/management of the program, group and curriculum.
  • Support the current program curriculum (vs development from scratch) to maintain standards and reputation of existing program.
  • Event planning for program days and volunteer teams who plan and facilitate programs.
  • Small group facilitation of volunteer project teams tasked with planning monthly program days.
  • Skill to empower and influence without authority.
  • Effective volunteer management skills to ensure successful program design and facilitation by the volunteer planning team, within a provided rubric.
  • Ability to synthesize and deliver information, plan and delivery of ideas with other staff.
  • Some program planning as it relates to training needs.
  • Monitor financial performance of programs against budget.
  • Coordinate logistical arrangements, including site selection, reservation, set-up, and break-down and other such duties for all programs.
  • Support the Executive Director, Board committees in program-related events
  • Support of all program-related events outside the published schedule.
  • Cultivate positive working relationships, contributing to a welcoming and inclusive, team-based work environment.

Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s Degree.
  • 5+ years of related non-profit or similar programmatic work experience, with a passion for the work and achieving results as a team.
  • Exceptional organizational skills with the ability to simultaneously manage multiple, overlapping projects in various stages of progression.
  • Roll up your sleeves, no job is too small, team-centric approach.
  • Experience facilitating small groups in a variety of circumstances.
  • Comfortable in a support role with a willingness to expand.
  • Desire to learn large group facilitation based on systems thinking.
  • Superior communication skills – verbal and written - focused attention on details and accuracy.
  • Creative, innovative, solution-focused, and forward-thinking.
  • Mature, interpersonally savvy, operating with diplomacy and empathy. Trustworthy, operates with the highest level of honesty, integrity and discretion handling confidential information, issues, and relationships with utmost professionalism.
  • Comfortable working with diverse populations, deeply committed to equity and inclusion.
  • Ideally have knowledge of the civic issues, demographics, and other characteristics of Charlotte/Mecklenburg County, NC.

Other Important Criteria:
  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office (e.g., Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.), WordPress, general computer, and Internet research skills.
  • Must possess a valid driver’s license at time of employment and transportation.
  • Must have availability for some in-town and out-of-town (within 2 hour drive of Charlotte) travel to and from meetings, seminars, retreats, receptions, and other events.
  • This is a contract engagement for one year with an opportunity to extend the timeframe. Approximately 40 hrs/week is needed and the ability to work a flexible schedule.
  • Work from home is possible with preplanning, program days require on-site work - which includes a typical timeframe of 7:30 am to 6:00 pm, once a month. Overnight/weekend work happens twice a year. Infrequently, the schedule also includes attending meetings ending at 6:30 pm or in the evening.

Pay Rate: $30.00-$40.00/Hour
