Major Gifts Officer
Job Description
Reporting to the Chief Philanthropy Officer, the Major Gifts Officer will design, develop, and implement the major gifts program. You will be responsible for managing and cultivating relationships with existing major donors and prospects, as well as identifying new prospects to support fulfilling their philanthropic goals that align with the organization’s mission. You will be responsible for advancing fundraising efforts and donor engagement to fund general operations and specific programmatic opportunities to increase the organization impact on global conservation. An ability to empathize with donors and clearly communicate our organization’s mission is key. You will motivate team members, persuade prospects and be passionate about our work.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Develop a fundraising and stewardship strategy for an assigned portfolio of donors and serve as the relationship manager employing a variety of fundraising techniques including written communications, virtual meetings, face-to-face solicitations and fundraising events.
- Create moves management plans for each assigned donor working independently or in partnership with the CEO, CPO and board members to achieve success.
- Utilize systems and software to track and cultivate donors and prospects, including our donor database and wealth screening tools and update donor information on an ongoing basis to ensure donor records are current and accurate.
- Collaborate with CPO for identification and stewardship of prospects for planned to give and endowment opportunities and other complex gift transactions.
- Write creative, compelling communications for both individual donors and broader audiences.
- Participate in planning and execution of donor/prospect events including invitation list management, marketing, attendee recruitment, logistics and follow-up.
- Serve as a public representative of the organization by effectively and strategically communicating its mission, purpose, and vision.
- Bachelor’s degree required. Master’s degree a plus.
- 8+ years of experience in nonprofit fundraising, sales, or the equivalent.
- Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to interact with all members of the organization and external community positively and successfully.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office, Google Suite and Blackbaud Raiser’s Edge or other CRM experience required.
- Ability to periodically travel domestically on a quarterly basis, internationally on occasion. Willingness to occasionally attend events on nights and weekends.
- Any experience in conservation is nice to have.
