Our client, an award winning, leading producing theatre, is seeking a Director of Inclusion, Diversity, Equity & Access for a direct hire role in Atlanta, GA. Vaccination against Covid 19 is required for this role. 
Position Description
The Director of Inclusion, Diversity, Equity and Access (IDEA Director) is a member of the senior staff and will help fulfill the mission of expanding hearts and minds onstage and off by ensuring all aspects of the theater’s practices, policies, and overall culture comply with the highest standards of IDEA. The IDEA Director will work to achieve this goal by developing IDEA strategies, training, and programs designed to build and maintain a brave, safe, and forward-thinking environment for staff and artists. The IDEA Director will focus on making a measurable difference in IDEA practices as they pertain to the organization’s operations, culture, hiring, workforce development, and community outreach.
This position works closely with other members of the senior leadership team, staff and board, community partners, leadership and other campus partners, and the broader Atlanta theatre community.
Role and Responsibilities
Organizational Operations
  • Develop, implement, and monitor the diversity and equity strategy in partnership with existing committees and departments.
  • Guide the analysis of performance measures (e.g. sales goals, new patron acquisition, program impact) through an equity lens and use this information to foster improvements across the organization.
  • Advise senior leadership, department managers and staff on all matters pertaining to equity, diversity and inclusion practices at the theater
  • Present updates, insights and plans at Board and Executive Committee meetings.
  • Lead the work of a Board committee devoted to strengthening IDEA practices.
  • Manage deliverables, timelines, and budgets related to IDEA initiatives.
  • Champion and lead the development, monitoring and review of policies and strategies to ensure our organization, staff and on/off-site programming are welcoming and ensure equitable access for all stakeholders.
Organizational Culture
  • Create spaces for staff, board members, artists, and other stakeholders to feel heard and respected as they work to build inclusive cultures.
  • Design company policies and practices to address employee concerns and interests in the organization.
  • Offer guidance to staff and Board of Directors on culturally sensitive topics.
  • Provide frequent updates on IDEA activities across the entire organization.
  • Serves as a resource for cast members and creative team of productions to matters pertaining to IDEA.
Hiring and Workforce Development
  • Collaborate with department heads to create innovative strategies to cultivate, attract, develop, and retain a diverse workforce.
  • Participate in the interview process and decision making for all prospective job candidates as you are able and/or delegate someone in your stead.
  • Develop and deliver a range of training and resource materials for all staff and board members that support IDEA goals.
  • Collaborate with Allyship Program to ensure delivery of ongoing anti-bias and allyship training  
  • Community Engagement and Partnerships
  • Build and maintain community partnerships and manage communication (in collaboration with marketing department) and integration of key initiatives among members, partners, and connected organizations.
  • Organize and/or facilitate discussions and roundtables for audiences and community stakeholders and serve as an IDEA thought leader
  • Partner with the engagement and education teams on community programs to expand access to arts programming
  • Partner and support the Director of Marketing & Communications to drive the design and delivery of inclusive messaging to media and key stakeholders.
  • Partner with the development team on strategies to diversify donor base and support data collection for institutional gifts.
  • Knowledge and awareness of diversity including, but not limited to, cultural, ethnic, racial, religious, gender, gender expression, age, sexual orientation and differing abilities.
  • Thorough understanding of core equity, diversity and anti-racism concepts including employment equity, human rights, power and privilege, emotional intelligence, culture competence, implicit bias and trauma-informed approaches.
  • Excellent leadership skills and the ability to influence diverse teams working in a complex and fast paced environment.
  • Actively engaged with community organizations and maintains consistent IDEA training through workshops and leadership events.
  • Effective written, verbal and listening communication skills.
  • Experience in equity, diversity, inclusion and access in the cultural sector or area of the performing arts is preferred
Salary- $80,000
