Job Duties
Accounting & Reporting Leadership
- Lead the Month-end, QTR-end and year-end close process
- Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local financial legal requirements
- Oversee general ledger, journal entries, accruals, reserves, and account reconciliations
- Responsible for tax planning throughout the fiscal year and assists with the preparation of the corporate tax return.
- Presents recommendations to management on short- and long-term financial objectives and policies.
- Oversee client billing and collection processes to ensure accurate invoicing and timely collection
- Foster development of best practice standards to reduce billing cycle time and improve collection rates
- Actively monitor:
- WIP aging to ensure timely conversion of unbilled WIP and identification
- AR aging to ensure timely collection and identification of trends
- Supervise the accounts’ payable function, ensuring timely and accurate processing of vendor invoices and expense reimbursements
- Ensure adherence to approval workflows and firm policies for disbursements and vendor setup
- Monitor cash disbursements and coordinate payment runs to optimize cash flow
- Supervise Payroll processing in compliance with federal, state, and local regulations
- Review payroll for accuracy, including compensation, benefits, deductions, and tax filings
- Liaise with external payroll providers and internal HR to ensure proper documentation and reporting
- Ensure timely filing of payroll tax returns and year end forms (e.g., W-2’s, 1099’s)
- Monitor daily cash balances and ensure adequate liquidity to meet operational needs
- Forecast cash flow and manage short-term borrowing or investing activities
- Oversee banking relationships and negotiate terms for credit lines and services
- Ensure timely reconciliation of bank accounts and proper cash application
- Implement and maintain effective cash controls and fraud prevention processes
- Support annual budgeting and periodic forecasting processes
- Provide variance analysis and commentary to support management decisions
- Maintain appropriate internal controls over financial reporting, timekeeping, and billing
- Develop and enforce financial policies and procedures specific to professional services industry
- Ensure compliance with regulatory and ethical standards applicable to the professional services industry – and accounting firms specifically
- Supervise, coach and develop the finance team members
- Establish goals, delegate tasks, and evaluate team performance
- Foster a culture of accuracy, efficiency and continuous improvement
- Serve as a key member of the corporate operations leadership team
- Demonstrated ability to work effectively in a team environment and comfortably interact with senior leaders
- Proven ability to efficiently multitask, organize, prioritize, and coordinate simultaneous responsibilities, initiatives, and leadership duties
- Established analytical, problem-solving, organizational, interpersonal, and communication capabilities, accompanied by solid Microsoft Suite and General Ledger application (i.e., Sage) skills
- Experience supervising staff and leading teams to accomplish strategic objectives and the ability to work 3+ day per week in office – with the balance being virtual
- CPA
- Bachelor’s and/or master’s degree in accounting
- 5+ years of general accounting experience
- 2+ years of general accounting experience within public accounting environment
