Job Description

Our client, a boutique, small business accounting and advisory firm based in Charlotte, North Carolina provides high-impact, strategic support to small and mid-sized companies, guiding them toward long-term profitability. They act as a valued extension of their clients' leadership and finance teams—educating management on best practices, optimizing operations, and safeguarding the overall financial health and well-being of the finance functions supported.

Position Summary
They are seeking a part-time (~25 hours/week) highly analytical, sharp, and tech-savvy accountant with approximately 3-5+ years of dedicated experience to join their growing team in a 6 month contract role.  The role is primarily remote, with occasional client and or company meetings in-person in Charlotte; a flexible schedule of hours, ie M-F 9-2 each week is acceptable.
The Profile: This is not a typical back-office staff accountant role. The candidate for this role is an experienced professional who is skilled with property management systems, possesses an elite attention to detail, and is adept at solving problems with little direction. The ideal candidate must be comfortable acting as a direct advisor and conduit for small to mid-sized business clients.

  • Experience: 3+ years of hands-on accounting experience strictly within the real estate or property management sector.
  • Software Expertise: Strong, independent proficiency in Appfolio and QuickBooks Online is required. Must know how to navigate these systems without training.
  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
  • Technical Foundation: A solid understanding of GAAP, general ledger maintenance, bank/credit reconciliations, and property-specific workflows (tenant ledgers, vendor management).
  • Work Style: Must be entirely comfortable executing in a cloud-based environment (Zoom, MS Teams) and have strong intermediate/advanced Excel skills.
Preferred & "Nice-to-Have" Skills
  • Exposure to RealPage (highly preferred) or experience dealing with property management software transitions/data cleanups.
  • Experience or training with Karbon (or a similar modern accounting workflow management tool).
  • Familiarity with sales and use tax, 1099 reporting, or basic payroll processing.
Key Responsibilities
  • Client Accounting Operations: Independently manage the day-to-day full accounting cycle for a portfolio of 10-15 clients. Maintain general ledgers, post journal entries, perform complex monthly reconciliations, and catch data discrepancies early.
  • Proactive Cash Management: Dive deep into client portfolios to understand income/expense cycles, monitor cash positioning, and help ensure clients maintain optimal financial health.
  • Property Management Accounting: Act as the internal specialist for property-focused clients, managing property/tenant ledgers, tracking distributions, and ensuring data integrity inside Appfolio.
  • Tax & Compliance Support: Act as the critical link between the client and their tax preparer by keeping files pristine and audit-ready. Assist with 1099 reporting, sales and use tax, and property listings.
  • Client Advisor & Liaison: Collaborate directly with clients and their internal staff to solve operational bottlenecks, streamline their workflows using technology, and explain financial details clearly.
Pay rate is commensurate with experience and at a range of $43.00-48.00/hour
