Sales Tax Accountant
Job Description
Day to Day:
This position is responsible for reporting, verification, and filing of sales tax and misc. tax returns in multiple taxing jurisdictions. This position will ensure all returns are filed timely and accurately and will assist, as needed, with audits for the tax types filed and research pertaining to sales, use, and misc. taxes.
Tax Compliance: 60-70%
- Coordinate, prepare reports, and file returns timely and compliant with federal, state and local jurisdictions. Prepare accounting entries and account reconciliation to reflect filings and balance General Ledger accounts.
- Monitor change in tax rates and update tax rate files monthly.
- Process incoming tax notices and tax bills.
- Assist in responding to tax issues from stores and customers by researching items and setting them up in the tax system correctly.
- Maintain and analyze detailed schedule of store and customer tax issues.
- Experience: 2 years of sales tax experience in a corporate, government, or public accounting environment.
- General knowledge of tax trends and processes.
- Ability to multi-task in a high energy environment.
- Display detail-oriented approach to work, especially data entry and integrity.
- Demonstrate strong interpersonal, communication, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability and proficiency in Microsoft Office products, including Excel (Pivot Tables) and Word.
- Display a detail-oriented approach to daily activities and a self-starter attitude.
- Ability and proficient use of spreadsheets and word processing, specifically Microsoft Office.
- Ability to research, audit, and analyze.
- Knowledge of sales tax audits.
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or related field
- Experience with xlookup or vlookup
- Experience reading and researching legislation
