Tax Manager- Non-Profit
Job Description
What you will be doing…
- Interact closely with clients to provide innovative tax planning, consulting, and compliance expertise.
- Review form 990-EZ, 990, and 990-PF for private foundations, public charities, and other nonprofits approximately 50 percent of the time. As the practice grows this percentage will increase.
- Review of corporate, partnership, trust and/or individual tax returns the remaining time This work would decrease as the nonprofit work increases.
- Manage and implement multiple and often complex projects simultaneously, which include client communication, review of detailed calculations, analysis, data gathering, and coordination of company and client resources.
- Conduct research and analysis for tax implications of federal and state Unrelated Business Income Tax (UBIT) issues related to nonprofit specific activities.
- Manage the preparation of Tax-Exempt Status Reinstatements including working with the client to gather or recreate the necessary information, and review of Form 1023, Application for Recognition of Exemption Under Section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code.
- Collaborate with members of client’s other outside advisors in providing holistic and comprehensive planning services to the client.
- Review and conduct research & analysis of a wide range of tax issues.
- Motivate and mentor junior staff members by providing them with leadership, counseling, and professional guidance.
- Be a resource for the firm regarding nonprofit financial best practices.
- Play a major role in helping to educate of staff working on nonprofits of the tax laws and regulations including annual training of newly hired staff on nonprofit tax preparation.
- Develop new business relationships with potential clients and outside advisors to growclientele base and work to foster on-going efforts to obtain additional opportunities for the Firm.
What you bring…
- A minimum of 5 years of experience in Public Accounting; including previous work at the manager level
- An active CPA or Internal Revenue Service Enrolled Agent (“EA”) license
- 8+ years of experience preparing and reviewing private foundations, public charities, and other nonprofits
- Prior experience supervising tax professionals on a project or engagement basis
- A strong sense of ownership for delivering responsive client service
- Excellent communication and time management skills
Base Salary $116,000-$136,000. Final determination of salary will be based on an evaluation of experience, education, budget, etc.
